Google Ends Support for Google Classic Sites

Google has ended support for Google Classic Sites, a feature available in SSU's Google Workplace application.  If you have a Google Classic site, you won’t be able to edit it starting December 1, 2021. Starting January 1, 2022,  Google Classic Sites will no longer be viewable.

What do I need to know?

In 2017, Google announced that they are replacing Classic Sites with a new Google Sites product. New Google Sites is available to all SSU students and employees, via Google Drive.  To create a New Google Site, login to Google Drive, and in the menu click New > More > Google Sites.  Support for creating New Google Sites is available.

Can I convert my Google Classic Site to a New Google Site?

Yes.  If you have a Classic site with multiple pages of content, you can submit a Help Desk ticket to request conversion of your Google Classic Site, before December 15, 2021. Include your full name, your @sonoma.edu email address, and the URL of your Google Classic Site.  An IT Google Workplace Administrator will convert your site.

Please note, if your site does not contain actual content, IT will not convert your site.  If your site contains only a page or two of content, it will be easier for you to copy and paste your content to a new site yourself.

Do I need to do anything if I don't want to convert my Google Classic Site?

No.  If you do not want to convert your site, do nothing.  Your Google Classic Site will be automatically deleted on January 1, 2022, or shortly thereafter.
