Remote Labs - LabStats

SSU IT is using LabStats to provide remote access to both IT managed and departmental physical lab computers. It allows users to connect to one of the lab computers on campus using their personal computer regardless of where they are in the world. LabStats is intended to be used by students who don’t have the software available to perform classwork.  We have configured LabStats to work on a PC, Mac or Chromebook.

Updates

We are continuing to update our lab environment with additional software and lab stations. We currently have PC's with Windows 10 available (see links below) and we are exploring options to add additional platforms, including macOS. 

Currently Available Labs

  • General Lab - These are PC-based general use labs. See our Lab Software website for a comprehensive list of software the comes with our standard lab computer.

  • Class Specific Labs - Includes the Geology, GIS, and STAR Labs. These labs are only accessible by students enrolled in specific classes. If you don't have access to a lab you need for a class, contact the IT Help Desk.

Access Instructions

Connecting from PC:

  1. Choose from the general or class specific lab link above.

  2. Click on the Lab you will need to access.

  3. Click connect on any available computer.

  4. Follow the on-screen instructions and click the Download button.

  5. Once the file is downloaded, it should go to your downloads folder.

  6. When you open the downloaded file you may receive a notification regarding the publisher of the connection, click Connect.

  7. You will need to enter SOLAR\UserID and password.

  8. You should now be logged in.

Once you are done using the lab computer, you will need to sign out.

  1. Click on the windows icon on the bottom left hand corner.

  2. Click on your name and select sign out.

Connecting from MAC:

  1. Go to the apple store. Search for and Install Microsoft Remote Desktop (If prompted – enter your apple id and password).

  2. Choose from the general or class specific lab link above.

  3. Click on the Lab you will need to access.

  4. Click connect on any available computer.

  5. Follow the on-screen instructions and click the Download button.

  6. Once the file is downloaded, it should go to your downloads folder.

  7. Check your downloads folder for the downloaded file.

  8. Open the file you will need to enter SOLAR\UserID and password.

  9. Once you log in, you will need to scroll the bottom cursor to the left or change the view to fit the screen.

  10. Move your mouse to the top of the screen click on Windows and select "Fit to Window".

Once you are done using the lab computer, you will need to sign out.

  1. Click on the windows icon on the bottom left hand corner.

  2. Click on your name and select sign out.

Connecting from Chromebook:

  1. Go to the Google Play Store. Search for Remote Desktop and install the Microsoft Corporation version.

  2. Choose from the general or class specific lab link above.

  3. Click on the Lab you need to access.

  4. Click connect on any available computer.

  5. Follow the on-screen instructions and click the Download button.

  6. After you click download you will need to go to your downloads folder to find the file.

  7. You will need to click on the 3 dots at the top right-hand side of the screen. Select download to open the downloads folder.

  8. In your downloads window, click on show in folder.

  9. In your downloads folder, select the file you downloaded.

  10. Click on open and select RD Client.

  11. The file will open in the Remote desktop app. Enter your username (SOLAR\userid) and password and click connect.

  12. At the pop-up screen click connect.

  13. You are now logged into the lab PC.

Once you are done using the lab computer, you will need to sign out.

  1. Click on the windows icon on the bottom left hand corner.

  2. Click on your name and select sign out.

Note: Please talk to your professor if you need access to a specific software/lab.

Important Reminders

Like in the physical labs, you are not guaranteed to have access to the same computer every time.

Please save all your files to your Google Drive. Saving the file to your Google Drive will ensure you have access to your data regardless of what computer you access.
