Wi-Fi Hotspots

Sonoma State University IT is providing cellular hotspots to students in need of broadband access. These hotspots are intended for students lacking quality internet connections for academic use (Zoom, virtual labs, etc.). Data plans are unlimited but bandwidth will be throttled after 25GB of data has been utilized in a month cycle.

Before submitting a request for a hotspot please verify that it will work in your area via this coverage map. More in-depth instructions on checking coverage are available on Verizon's How to Check Verizon Coverage in the US website.

How to Request

Please fill out the Hotspot Request Form (you must be logged into your SSU provided Google account). Once your request has been approved you will receive a communication from the IT Help Desk indicating that it has shipped to the address that you specified on the form.

The hotspot comes packaged with a self-sealing return envelope and shipping label.  Follow these steps to return the device when your checkout is due:

  • Place the package contents in the return envelope.

  • Attach the shipping label.

  • Drop it off at a UPS store or arrange a pickup.

How to Set Up

  1. Press and hold the power button down for 3 seconds. (You can also turn it off to preserve battery the same way)

  2. Wait several seconds for the unit to completely start up.

  3. On the right hand side of the screen press “Wi-Fi Name/Password”.

  4. Join the specified network with your device by selecting the specified Wi-Fi Name and entering the specified password.
